Volunteer
Application
Come and find out how you can make a difference.
The following document is to provide you with an understanding of Mackay Animal Rescue Society Inc (MARS) and what services we offer within the community and ways that applicants can volunteer to help us achieve this.
Mackay Animal Rescue Society Inc. (MARS) is a not for profit registered local charity who is committed to improving the wellbeing and quality of life of dogs and cats in the Mackay and surrounding region. Our aim is to provide animals with the second chance at a long and happy life by taking them into loving and safe foster homes and providing them with the care they need until they find their new home.
MARS was incorporated in January 2011 when it became apparent there was a lack of services for the pets that find themselves without a family to call their own. We have since been a safe haven for the dogs and cats of the Mackay region and will continue to do so for as long as we are needed. The founders dream was to establish a shelter to take in animals in need and find them second chance homes. While the plan to establish a shelter is still the aim of the organisation, it will not replace the in home foster system but provide a short term facility for pets in urgent need of care until a foster home becomes available.
All of our members are volunteers which ensures all fundraising endeavours and community donations are 100 percent directed to the health and welfare of the animals in our care.
As well as foster carers, MARS solely relies on volunteers to assist in other areas of our organisation. Volunteers are needed to help at fundraising BBQs, man information stalls at public events, attend school and community talks about MARS and animal welfare, sell raffle tickets, assist with foster animal transports to vet appointments, adoption days etc and collect donations from the public.
Our goal for the near future is to establish a short term shelter for animals waiting to go into foster homes. When this gets underway we will also be needing volunteers to assist with walking and interacting with fosters, cleaning cages, maintaining the grounds and facilitating potential adoption meet and greets.
MARS are always on the lookout for special talent roles that would benefit our organisation. This could be in the form of fundraising ideas, event planning, and creative design talent for our marketing brochures plus many more.
We would love to hear from people that may be able to help in other ways too.
To become a registered volunteer you must agree to become a financial member of M.A.R.S which has a yearly membership fee of $10 payable to our Treasurer upon joining our volunteers page.
